Bunnings

We went on the bus to Bunnings. Dugan drove us there.
Room 5 loves travelling by bus.

We spent some of our Seed Shop money.
We bought jiffy pots, seed raising mix, potting mix and seeds.
We also bought special seed raising containers so it is nice and warm for the seeds to grow.

We were lucky because some of our parents and grandparents could come with us.

Minnie - Our Buddy

Room 5 has created our buddy for Buddy Day
Her name is Minnie. She is 5 years old and goes to Hamilton East School.

Minnie loves writing and reading. She really likes reading with her friends on the bean bags.

Minnie has liked learning about seeds and how to grow plants.

Minnie loves playing in Fairyland and in the Kowhai sandpit.
The rainbow playground is fun too.
We had a lot of fun having Minnie in our classroom.

We hope Minnie has a great day on Buddy Day.

Class of 1953

We had special visitors to our school.
They were people who used to come to Hamilton East School in 1953.
We showed them around the Kitchen Garden. We showed them what we had been growing. They asked us a lot of great questions.

We liked meeting them and showing them around Hamilton East School.

Room 5's Seed Shop

Room 5 is going to sell Kings Seeds at school.  We made a video to explain what we are doing.
Room 5 thought about the plants they liked growing and eating to help them choose what seeds to sell.
We will be sending a notice home to all the families in our school so that they can buy seeds if they want to.

New Things

We walked around our school and had a look to see what had changed after the holidays.

There is now a big garden in the Kitchen Garden.

We could see the beginnings of plums on the plum trees. They aren't ready to eat yet. They are small hard and green.

There are flowers on the strawberry plants.

There is a new mural on the swimming pool wall. We love the fish swimming.

There are also new fences and rails to help us around the school.

The America's Cup

Room 5 has been following the America's Cup race.
Zoe thought we should all try and make boats.
Anna found a great link to a blog that showed you how to make a paper boat. It has photos and instructions so that you know what to do.
We also got some great helpers from Room 12 to help us with the folding.

It was raining when we went to see if the boats floated.
We didn't mind the rain at all.

Mystery Creek pictures

We looked at the photos of our trip to Mystery Creek.
We drew all the things we could remember about our trip.

We recorded ourselves talking about our pictures in an app called Explain Everything.

Take a look at Boston, Anab, Valeti and Jawad talking about their pictures.

Here is Ashaar, Zoe, Mariko, Jhyrome and Nishant talking about their pictures.

Here is Kredenz, Summer, Analise and Kate talking about their pictures.

Mystery Creek

We went on a fantastic trip to Mystery Creek.
We got to see what life was like in the olden days.

We got to do the washing like they did in the olden days. You had to scrub the clothes on the washboard. Then you had to put it through the wringer to squeeze the clothes out.

There was a special dentist chair. You had to be brave at the dentist. The dentist had to turn the drill.

We could even dress up in old clothes and try the glasses.
We learnt about farms too. Cows used to be milked by hand.

We went into the old school. They had wooden desks and the children had to sit in rows. There was not a lot of room in the old school.

Analise's Great Great Grandma's Cake

Analise's family gave us the recipe for a Gingerbread cake.
Her Great Great Grandma used to bake the cake.
Thank you Analise for sharing your family recipe with us.

We also shared it with Whaea Eve, Mrs Bobsien and Shelley.
They all thought it was delicious.
Room 5 thinks it tasted delicious too and would like to make the cake again.

Today we ran our Cross Country.
Some of our parents and grandparents came to watch us race.
Thanks for coming to watch and cheer for us.

It was fun because we ran around the cones.
It was fun to pass people.
I ran fast.
Here are some photos of us getting ready to race.
