Room 2 Tamaki Primary School

We have loved looking at our friends in Room 2 at Tamaki Primary School's blog.

They are going to get a rabbit for their classroom next term and we can't wait to see what they will call it.

We asked Anna if we could Skype our new friends in Room 2.
Anna and Mrs Vercoe organised for us to Skype today.

We introduced ourselves to our friends.

We asked questions about our learning too.
Room 2 even sang us a song about recycling.
They were very good singers.
Next time we would like to sing them a song.

We did have a couple of tricky problems with our cameras but we had fun.

Toy Day

We have been learning about things that are old and new. Whaea Sheryl let us look at her old toys.

We were very careful holding them because they are old and precious.

Tomorrow we are going to have a Toy Day.
We are going to bring a toy to school to share with everyone.
We might even bring an old toy that belongs to our Mum or Dad.

A school walk

We went on a walk around our school.

We went to the Kitchen Garden and looked at the plants growing. Our broad beans have grown. We also had a taste of the mint leaves. Some of us liked the taste and other people didn't like it.

We went down to Putikitiki and looked at the Nature Trail. We checked on the big tree that had fallen down. Tyson thought the big trees looked like slides.

We loved walked through the long grass. It was squishy and soft.

We checked on the butterfly garden too. We saw a caterpillar on the swan plant. Taine said that the caterpillar needs a jacket because it is cold.

Thank you Analise and Vahoi for helping Anna to take photos today.

Tane Mahuta Day

We celebrated Tane Mahuta Day.
We had a good look at all the beautiful trees at Hamilton East School.

We looked at the leaves.
We looked at the trunk and touched the bark.

We threw the leaves in the air.

The Redwood tree is massive.
We think it is awesome.
Katie says the Redwood tree is taller than her Dad.
We sketched the Redwood tree too.
We even wrote about our favourite trees at Hamilton East School.

Banana Cake

We made a banana cake using the kitchen in Room 6. We are very lucky to be able to have a kitchen in our learning space.
We had to cut up the butter before we put it in the cake mixer. Some of us thought it was cheese!

We needed to get a lemon from the tree outside our classroom.
We all helped to bake the cake. We had to stir the mixture.

When the cake was baking it smelt delicious.
The cake even tasted delicious.
We shared the cake with the teachers.
They told us it was yum!

Winter Planting

One of our Mum's came to help us in the Kitchen Garden. Miriam helped us weed both our gardens.

She had also brought us some lettuce and broccoli seedlings for us to grow.

We had to put the seedlings into the hole and then pat the soil around the seedling.
Miriam also gave us broad bean seeds to plant. We had to poke a hole into the soil with our finger and then put the seed into the hole.

Thank you Miriam for your help in our garden.
