Commonwealth Games Medals

Room 5 had a very very special visitor today. Nicholas' family let us borrow some Commonwealth Games medals for the day.

There are gold, silver, and bronze medals. If you are first you get a gold medal. If you are second you get a silver medal and if you are third you get a bronze medal.
We all got to try them on. Take a look at our photos. We pretended we had won them that is why we are smiling so much.

The medals felt heavy around our necks. They are very special.
Thank you Nicholas for bringing the medals to Room 5.

Letter Day

There are letters all over the place!
Today we all took photos of letters and words in our classroom.
We made them into photo collages.

After we took these photos we realised there were more letters in our classroom.
There are words everywhere. If you are a word detective you can find them.
How many words can you find at your house?

Soccer World Cup

Room 5 has been watching the Soccer World Cup. We have learnt things we didn't know before. Here are some of the things we have learnt -
  • only the goalkeepers can pick the ball up
  • the referee doesn't have anyone on his team
  • the goalkeeper's job is to stop the ball going into the goal

Today we decided to have a soccer day.
Anna painted our faces the colours of the teams who are left in the competition. Actually she didn't paint them! She used an app called Flag Face to pretend to paint our faces. We think we look awesome!
We played soccer in the hall. It was fun playing together. The goalkeepers even wore their winter gloves so we would know they are goalies.

Weather

We have had lots of wet weather lately. We wrote about the rain.
Brooke took some photos of the courts and the Kowhai sandpit. We used an app called Over to write our writing on the photos.

Rafiki Mwema Stickers

We posted some stickers to the girls at Rafiki Mwema in Kenya.

We wrote a letter and sent a photo of our class to them too.
We walked across the pedestrian crossing to post the letters.
It was raining and it was very windy. Luckily we didn't blow away!

We think the girls at Rafiki Mwema will be very happy to get mail from us.
